V Episode Five: “Welcome to the War!” – UK Perspective

Hello from the United Kingdom V fans,

I have met; via Twitter a very cool guy called Gregg Hurwitz ! He is a Consulting Producer/Writer for V: click on his picture to ‘Visit’ him on Twitter!

“V” episode Five: “Welcome to the war”.

Wow, that was a long wait, but WORTH it! V is continuing to satisfy my thirst for more! I love everything about it! The casing is fabulous and the characters are so believable, and lovable. All ages can love this show for different reasons. As everyone knows my daughter loves the show!

Her favorite characters are Georgie and Lisa, I too Love Georgie, and Joshua! And yes Chad Decker, and… Marcus too. Ok, this does not give permission for the hash tags on twitter to start again! *Smile* and on that note on with my recap/review…

We left the last episode “This is just the beginning” where Chad Decker had been diagnosed with a future fatal aneurysm, by the visitors.

The resistance make a ‘win’ by destroying the R6 compound that was hidden in the flu vaccinations, and we had a glimpse of Anna’s bliss… and poor Father Jack Landry being stabbed by the security Visitor…

We start “Welcome to the War” with Jack being wheeled from St. Josephine’s Church on a gurney, and to our horror he is being taken to a healing centre.

Erica is really panicked about Tyler; she had seen the message left from Brandon on the computer for Tyler. She even resorted to calling Brandon. She picks up a photo of her and Tyler; she sees a reflection of the Visitor from the warehouse they had just blown up.

He attacks Erica with their weapon of choice a lethal blade. We see how ‘lethal’ this blade really is here. It’s cuts the photograph/frame in two. Even cuts through the barrel of Erica’s gun.

She fights back, slicing his hand with a kitchen knife revealing his ‘true’ likeness. She thinks she got him, by stabbing him where the ‘human’ heart is, he appears to be dead, but as she walks away he grabs her by the leg.

“Nice try- stings like hell; but my heart’s on the other side” He sneers. As he is about to lunge at her, she stabs him in ‘his’ heart with part of the broken photo frame. Then just to be safe, stamps it in! And says: “I bet that stings like hell too!” *Nice! I love Erica’s one-liners!*

Meanwhile at Ryan and Valerie’s home, Val is eating like a horse, she states that she is only six weeks pregnant but she started to feel the baby move. You can see genuine concern on Ryan’s face. He is obviously worried sick about the whole situation, how is this pregnancy going to affect Valerie? What will she think when she knows the truth?

Erica calls Ryan, explains that she has been attacked, and they have her son. He goes over right away. Ryan confirms that it was the Visitor from the warehouse, and that he would be acting alone, they are safe. He clarified that the Visitor would want to clean up the mess before reporting to Anna; he let the warehouse he was guarding go up in smoke thus destroying most of the R6; Anna would have probably skinned him alive.

Now I do not know about you, but I most certainly would not want to make Anna mad at me! She does not seem the type to give second chances. Erica is loading her guns, reading herself. She wants to storm up to the Mothership, and do what ever is necessary to get her Son back.

*Now as a Mother myself, I can totally understand where she is coming from. If this was real and Anna and her mob had Munchkin, I would be up there kicking up a merry stink!* But Ryan says she cannot do that, they cannot make the wrong move, because Tyler won’t have a mother to come home to. *But will this stop Erica? It wouldn’t stop me*

Tyler is seen in what the Visitors call a ‘Memory Chamber’ he is laying in the contraption, gently spinning around. He looks uncomfortable, but at this point it is unclear why…

Lisa has his phone, she shows her Mother Anna, and tells her that Tyler’s Mother keeps calling, because she is worried about him, Anna says, “Keep him here until we find what we need…He can only have one family…us!” this is ominous…

Erica is now at the Peace Ambassador Head Quarters, not at all happy, almost yelling at a helpless Visitor… Marcus approaches…

“I need to see My Son!” She states! “Tyler?” Marcus asks…Well duh! Who else could she be talking about? *I would no last two seconds in the V reality, the Visitors would kill me quickly!* He leads her to a room, she sees Tyler??

She tells Tyler they are leaving; she says “No” He doesn’t seem to want to leave. He apologises about being out all night, but he does not want to go home right now. Erica tells him, she needs him to come home now! He asks why, he is safe. Then: “Is it because you don’t trust the V’s” *We then see Anna watching this play out up on the Mothership*

Tyler states that he cannot understand what her problem with them is. Erica, very cleverly answers: “My only problem is that you stayed out all night and you didn’t call. I was worried…what you think that cause you’re seventeen I don’t worry anymore?” Tyler tells her not to worry, that he’ll be home for dinner… Erica goes to grab Tyler, and her… disappears…

Marcus explains that Tyler is still on the Mothership, tells her that Tyler refused to come down, he explained the she was talking to a hologram of her son.

“Don’t worry Agent Evans, as long as your son is a guest on our ship you have nothing to fear” *Even know I did not believe a word he said…I noted that Marcus, for an emotionless reptile is very good at sounding concerned for Erica…*

*I do not know if this is right, but to me it seemed that Anna was controlling this hologram of Tyler. It may have convinced Erica, but it did not seem like Tyler to me. I thought he was in the memory chamber. Anna gets more and more devious as we go along… I think she is SO much more evil then Diana from the Original incarnation! And we are only just scratching the surface of Anna!*

Anna is sitting in her conference room, watching Chad Decker’s Prime Focus show, where he is reporting on the Lyndhurst Shipping warehouse explosion where the Flu vaccine, and more besides was destroyed.

He states that the FBI has no suspects at this time, but that the rumours are that it was a ‘terrorist’ attack. There are even some Anti V activists that think that the Visitors may have had something to do with it… Marcus reports that there is nothing that can trace the warehouse back to them, “Even ‘your’ Mouthpiece Chad Decker can’t hurt us” I get the feeling that he ‘really’ does not like Decker much!

Anna informs Marcus, and Joshua that she intends to handle Decker. But wants to know where they are on their own investigation. Marcus tells Anna that there is nothing, no leads.

All the surveillance footage was erased before the self-distrust was set off and the ‘John May Lives’ message was sent to them. Anna tells him to ‘find’ who did this and supply the FBI with a lead. “Deliver a villain and a hero emerges” She says with a ‘smirk’. In other words, ‘find some one to pin this on Marcus!’.

Marcus then touches the ‘resistance’ issue. If there is Fifth Column on their ship, it could be worldwide. Anna acknowledges this, and informs them that the Fifth Column must be “…Crushed before they become a greater threat” Marcus explains that they would need more soldiers, an army in fact. They only brought a ‘few’ on these ships *A few? Oh my!* The fleet that Anna sent for is still on their way.

Anna approaches Marcus and says: “You’ll get your Army” How?? “I’ll make one” She says with what my daughter described as ‘A very evil smile. Like she is going to do something very bad!’ She is going to ‘make’ an Army! Wow, you see: I said worse then Diana!

Erica and Ryan are having a discussion whilst walking in the street, she stresses that she wants to get her son off that ship. But Ryan tries to calm her, he points out that Anna knows that Erica is an FBI agent and she would not “Risk a Diplomatic incident” By harming Tyler in any way. *Ok that’s a good point, but I feel Erica’s pain! I would want to be doing something to get my Child back in her position*

Ryan tells Erica to get into work and get involved in the warehouse investigation, to make sure that nothing leads back to them. Erica asks if anyone has heard from Jack. Ryan explains that Georgie is looking for him. And that he intends to take a sample of that R6 to a Visitor Doctor he knows, to see if they can find out what it is!

We now find Father Jack at the healing centre, being treated by visitor physicians. He is seeing himself being healed in the reflection from some kind of Visitor tech above him.

As they are healing them we see The Other Priest Father Travis looking over the proceedings. He watches on as Jack is injected with R6, I really do think that Father Travis is a Visitor; he just has that vibe about him. And surely the Visitor medics would be more careful who saw the “R6” Labels right!

Ryan is now waiting outside someone’s apartment, as she walks up to her door he announces “Long time Dr Pearlman” *Yes, everyone will immediately recognise Dr Leah Pearlman as Lexa Doig from Stargate SG-1 and Andromeda! So good to see her in my favorite show!*

He tells her he needs her help. He hands over the R6, and explains that the Visitors are putting this into the Flu vaccine. “I thought you could help me find out why” He says.

He then tells her about his Girl Friend being pregnant. Leah looks shocked and asks if he’s sure…He says: “They told us that we can not procreate with humans” According to Leah, this is the first time that she has heard of ‘it’ happening. *But of course they do not know about Evelyn, Beth or Celtica from the V RPG*

“I guess nature and fate, they find a way” Leah states. She asks Ryan if Valerie knows about his ‘true’ nature, he said that he’s worried of what might happen if she finds out about what he is. But Leah makes a good point, it could get a whole lot worse if r when Anna finds out about it! Him, Val and their unborn Child would never be safe.

Anna has Joshua with her in her conference room; she is explaining that the captains of all the twenty-nine ships are sending the best soldiers to her; she wants Joshua to perform a full medical exam before she meets them. She orders the R6 they have in the healing centres to continue to be administered to the Humans who visit.

Joshua explains that most Humans are too afraid to visit healing centres, we do not trust the Visitors yet. Anna said she would make us trust them…

Chad is in a hospital waiting room, when his friend approaches, and tells him that there is no trace of any aneurysm in his examine/tests but if he developed the kind the Visitors have stated, it would not be operable any way. So what is he to do? Trust the Visitors, or not? Humm!

Georgie finds out from Father Travis that Jack has been stabbed, and taken to the Healing Centre. Georgie rushes off to go to Jack…

Erica now at the FBI New York Head Quarters, is trying to find out as much as she can about the Warehouse explosion. So far the FBI have zip. Agent Sarita Malik (Portrayed by Rekha Sharma who was in Battlestar Galactica) is heading up the team, as she is on the Visitor Threat Assessment Joint Task-force. *I personally have a suspicion that she ‘might’ be a visitor too* She comes in and tells us that the Visitors have offered to assist the investigation. How?

“Do they have an Alien K9 unit we’re not aware of?” Erica jokes *Again writers of V, I love Erica’s one liners!* But apparently the V’s have a devise that can show them who caused the explosion at the warehouse… Cue Marcus…

He apologises for “this Morning” Everyone shares ‘what IS he talking about?’ looks! There are people put there that seem to be shipping Marcus and Erica, but I’m not so sure about that! *Giggle* Christopher Shyer is amazing at throwing in subtle movements of his head, like Morena Baccrin, that look almost lizard-like. Wonderfully creepy! *In a totally good way!* Marcus sets up the V tech on a table, and says…

“Our technology can measure ordinates fragmentation, chemical composition and projected blast pattern together it calculates and simulates the explosion…” We are treated to a wonderful Visual effects sequence, where the V tech shows the explosion, then implodes back to expose…

“There’s your explosive” Marcus exclaims “C4 plastic compound, magnesium fuse, six hundred foot blast radius. Now I told you the how, would you like to know the who?” He zooms the picture onto fingerprints on the C4. They run the prints through the FBI database. Erica is looking worried, but subtlety enough to cause suspicion. The computer comes up with a match: the prints belong to…

‘Kyle Hobbes’ *Erica looks SO relieved* Marcus asks, “Who is Kyle Hobbes?” As if he does not know! Erica explains that Hobbes is a mercenary. He is pretty much the top of ‘everyone’s’ most wanted list. Former British SAS, improvised weapons expert, Guerrilla warfare Black ops. Pretty much as bad as he can get, now, he is a “Gun for hire”, and now they have something solid to pin on him, the FBI eat up the obviously planted information… Erica is thinking the same as me *see picture below*

Marcus tells them that Anna will be pleased that they were able to assist the investigation.

Erica takes the information about Hobbes directly to Ryan. She says that if they can get to Hobbs can train them, teach them how to fight, how to think!

Erica decides to look in Dale’s files *Her ex-partner who was a Lizard infiltrator and is now dead!* She knows that something is not right with the information that was given, because she knows that it was her and the resistance that caused the explosion, not Hobbs. The Visitors must have got Intel form Dale.

Marcus informs Anna that the FBI took the Bait, but they are working on finding the true ones responsible for destroying the R6 compound.

Ryan tells Erica that once they go down that road, with someone like Hobbes there will be no turning back. Erica says: “She has my son, if I have to cross the line to blow that B*@#h outta the sky I will”

*I really can not stress enough that every Mother watching the show will agree with Erica, I would do anything for my Daughter! This side of Erica shows that she really is not to be messed with when it comes to family!*

Anna has invited Chad Decker up to the Mothership; she wants to convince him to have his treatment for this ‘apparent’ aneurysm. Though; for Anna it is more of a way to get people into the Healing Centres and being injected with whatever this R6 is… Obviously it is something she sees as important.

She has food laid out on a table on the observation deck overlooking the beautiful views inside the Mothership. What food? Sushi of course! Perfect for Anna, being able to eat something raw without causing suspicion!

Anna quizzes Chad why he has not shown his piece about the Healing Centres and has not signed up for treatments yet? *Well maybe because deep down he knows that you’re a liar! And you keep trying to manipulate him…* Erica, Ryan and Georgie wake Jack up at the Healing Centre…

He remembers being injected with R6, he says that he can feel it inside him, then we see him changing before our eyes, reptilian… But it is ok, it is just a dream, Georgie is there when he wakes from this nightmare! He tells him to get dressed; they were getting out of there!

Erica is now at the FBI searching through Her ex-partner Dale’s computer to find information about Hobbes.

Bingo, she finds an address. So she and Ryan go to get Hobbes… Erica shows her I.D and enters, Hobbes pulls his gun on her, but Ryan came in another way! He asks who they are “You’re only chance for a future” Erica replies.

They explain that Kyle has been set up, that his prints were on the bomb that destroyed the Lyndhurst warehouse. She is not buying their story, so Erica calls her boss, saying that she has a lead on Hobbes whereabouts. So they move out. (Kyle Hobbs is portrayed by: Charles Mesure who has been in Xena Warrior Princess. Born in Somerset, England on 12 August 1970. He emigrated to Australia at the age of five)

The FBI raids the building, but Hobbes has escaped! Erica pulls up in her car, and asks where is Hobbes; they think that someone tipped him off!

We are not watching Tyler ‘still’ in the memory Chamber, but we see his memories playing before his eyes. Him with his Mother and Father when he was very young. Anna asks Lisa if she has found what they are looking for. But she is confused, she asks her mother what it all means? She does not seem to comprehend our emotional ties to our memories. “They don’t seem to serve any purpose”

Anna explains that Human memories do in fact contain emotion and well as “information” This makes ‘us’ more difficult for the Visitors to decipher! Lisa asks why ‘they’ are not like this, Anna says: “Our species is designed for efficiency. We’re not burdened by emotional imprints like Humans” We then see Tyler’s memories change from happy, to him becoming very upset. That was what Anna needed. Tyler’s Mother is frightened of loosing him. He’s Father walked out on them.

Anna says that Tyler needs to loosen the bonds his Mother has on him; “So he can be free from her” Lisa smirks “And you, My Daughter will be free to fulfill your destiny!”

Once out of the Memory Chamber, Tyler is overwhelmed, Anna tells him that he should return to him Mother “Tell her it’s ok to let you go, not to be afraid, you’re becoming a Man, starting your own life. That doesn’t mean that she’ll loose you like your Father” *This was well played by Anna; she is finding it really easy to manipulate the ‘hormonal’ Tyler, who only has eyes for Lisa! I really am hoping that Tyler wakes up and smells the roses before it is too late! As my daughter said: “Tyler is a silly Boy!”*

Now we are at St Josephine’s Church, everyone has come together to meet, with Hobbes in tow. Erica is delighted to see that Jack is well! *Awe big snuggle. But poor Georgie only a pat on the shoulder?*

They try to convince Hobbes that this is the right thing to do, that they need to fight the Visitors. But Hobbes insists that unless they can pay him, he is not interested. Until Ryan shows him what the Visitors really are! Ryan opens his eye wide with his fingers; his ‘human’ eye retracts and reveals his ‘real’ eye! Wow the effects and sound effects here were amazing! Yeah that leaves Hobbes a little shaken!

Ryan: “Yeah I’m one of them, but I’m ‘not’ with them!”

Ryan meets with Dr Leah Pearlman again, to see what she has found out about the R6. She said that with Human technology, she found nothing. But with Visitor technology, it was a completely different story. She has found that the R6 is a compound that embeds itself within the Human DNA, and once embedded it emits a wavelength.

*They are using this ‘vitamin injection’ to track humans! They are tagging us like wild Animals! What was in that swine flu jab I had last October??*

We then cut to the Mothership, where there are many visitors tending to holomonitors, this is their R7 tracking centre. And ‘oh no’ there is Jack…

Anna is watching Chad Decker’s Prime Focus show, where he is now showing his piece on the healing centre. *We see more of Morena’s rapid blinking here! I really think that this is a genius touch! And Anna seems to be quite obsessive about Chad Decker!*

Chad announces to the world that the Visitors have diagnosed him with a lethal Brain aneurysm, and that they have a cure, that he intends to take. He announces that he will take a camera crew behind the scenes to film every step of the treatment. *Smart move Chad! Now Anna and her mob ‘have’ to “take good care” of you!*

Marcus informs Anna that Kyle Hobbes has escaped the FBI; perhaps there could be fifth Column involvement; and thinks that Hobbes could help ‘them’ build an Army. But “Its now time to build our own” Several good-looking men are brought before Anna; she walks the line and proceeds to sniff the air in front of them. She chooses a strapping lad…

Tyler goes home to Erica *who has brought a new frame for the picture that was cut in the start of the show, this really shows Erica’s Motherly side* He basically tells Erica word for word what Anna told him to say to his Mother. He shows Erica his Peace Ambassador Jacket; she knows she is being captured on V camera, so she is very careful what she says to him.

Back to Ryan’s home, Valerie had been eating like a horse, she goes to scrape her plate into the bin, and finds a dead rat in a trap, she picks it up, and looks like she really wants to eat it! *I am SO glad that the only things I craved when pregnant were Strawberries and corn beef hash!*

This leaves her quite traumatized; Ryan enters, just after she throws it in the bin. She tells him that this baby is a miracle (As he had told her that he could not have children) and it happened for a reason. Anna up on the Mothership has entered a bedchamber. The ‘chosen one’ is sitting, naked on the V version of a bed. She circles him like a hunter stalking her prey!

With out going into too much details… Anna mated with this strapping lad, it was quick and straight to the point and ends with Anna saying: “It is done! My army is to be born!”

“And Now my eggs need nourishment”

Oh my gosh! Her neck contracts, and she opens her mouth, and exposes these amazingly scary fangs! Now that is scary! But the visual effects in the sequence were AMAZING! I’m very impressed. We do not see her eating him, but that is what happened! *Black widow? And Diana only ate a guinea pig!*
