Hello, my fellow Comic-Con 2026 friends,
We are just a few days away from this year’s convention in San Diego, and I am here to share my thoughts on the upcoming convention. I have been attending Comic-Con since 2012 and have had incredible experiences, and I want to share with you what I find to be my favorite parts of going to the convention. As always, the anticipation of the schedule release is one of the hardest things to wait for because there is always that what-if, wondering what will be there and what will not be there. So, luckily, we did get a chance to see what the upcoming schedule is going to be like for this year’s Comic-Con.
I must admit that, with the strikes that happened a few years ago, coupled with studio acquisitions, and impending mergers, television shows and movies that would normally be at Comic Con this year are unfortunately not being featured this year. It has been difficult for things to return to full force since the pandemic, which seems to be a recurring theme not only at Comic Con but in the world in general.
However, I am excited to see that a few things are being featured that I am looking forward to. One is the long-awaited sequel to one of the funniest space spoof movies of all time, Spaceballs: The New One. I am looking forward to seeing it in Hall H with the cast, and no doubt there will be some antics, as well as, hopefully, a sneak preview or a new teaser trailer.
The other major panel I am looking forward to is the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which will be opening in September 2027. I believe it will feature more information we got last year from George Lucas about what the Lucas Museum will entail and what it will have.
Another interesting panel is Aliens, celebrating the 40th anniversary of arguably the greatest sequel of all time, directed by James Cameron. When I first heard about this, I was beyond excited, knowing it is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was hoping we would get the entire cast and director for an incredible panel in Hall H. Unfortunately, that is not the case. It will be in a smaller room with only a few cast members. Sadly, Sigourney Weaver, James Cameron, and others are missing.
One panel I am looking forward to in Hall H is about Brad Bird, one of Pixar‘s directors behind such hits as The Incredibles and Ratatouille. That should be a lot of fun, as I get to see what he has in store, learn more interesting facts about Pixar, and get a sneak peek at his new project, Ray Gunn.
Friday kicks off with Blade Runner 2099 and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in Hall H, and then, of course, Spaceballs: The New One. And then Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth 20th anniversary. All of that sounds incredible, and I may spend more time in Hall H on Friday, Day 2, than I normally would anywhere else. Hall H usually has big panels, the ones that are highly anticipated, the ones people camp out for days. And it has been like that for as long as I can remember, from Fringe to The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Twilight as well as Warner Bros. and Marvel all had incredible panels that make Hall H the most fun place to be during Comic-Con.
Last year was great, with all the wonderful movies they previewed, and this year will be the same. There will be Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, aan Apple TV panel, and Marvel Studios. Sadly, we will not be getting Warner Bros. with any upcoming films or series from them, but that could have to do with either the merger or things being pushed back because of the strike. Even though there is no panel in Hall H for Warner Bros, they will still have a presence at the convention with booths on the main floor. I was hoping to get something from Godzilla Minus Zero or from the new Highlander starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, and Dave Bautista, coming in 2027. It’s in post-production, so we will not get anything, but you never know. There are always surprises that happen.
The one thing that Comic Con will always have is comics. That is what it started as, and that is what it will always have—comic writers, from Jim Lee to Frank Miller to Todd McFarlane and everyone in between. I have attended a few comic panels with my friends, and even some you would never expect. A few years ago, in 2022, Jamie Lee Curtis released her own graphic novel, Mother Nature, and it seems lately more actors are dipping their toes into the comic book and graphic novel world.
One panel I am particularly intrigued by is AMC‘s new series, Yaga, starring Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, and Clark Backo, and written by Kat Sandler, based on her 2019 play, which offers a fresh take on the Baba Yaga of Slavic folklore. I have always been very intrigued by it and grew up with that knowledge in my head because of my Slavic parents. I do like finding new and exciting series to cover at Comic Con because it always brings new creative ideas into the world, especially something like the legend and lore of Baba Yaga, which has always been a touchy subject for a lot of people because of what it entails and the legend and lore behind it.
As always, I am looking forward to seeing all the incredible cosplay people bring to Comic Con. I am always so impressed by the sheer brilliance and dedication they put into these costumes, some so incredibly detailed down to the color of the thread. It is very impressive and makes me happy that there is still so much creativity left in the world. Always keep an eye on my social media accounts, as I will be posting pictures every day of the convention so you can see how incredible the cosplay is.
One of my other favorite things is always looking at the incredible statues and all the wonderful maquettes brought to the convention by extremely talented artists. It is always fun to see a lot of old pop culture memorabilia, like posters, T-shirts, props, creative and myriad cosplay, and the plain nostalgia that brings back wonderful memories for many of us older attendees who remember when all those pop culture things were new and fresh.
Sunday is always the slowest day at the convention because there are fewer panels than during the week. It gives you a chance to explore the convention floor, and that is the one thing I have always done on Sundays. I have found fun booths and independent artists who are wonderful to see. I love that Comic Con features Artist’s Alley, which gives independent artists a place to display their work and sell their wares. You never know; you might find your next favorite artist or artwork in Artist Alley. It is always wonderful to see Comic Con give independent artists, small artists, and press their own section, so the masses can discover these brand-new talents or those who have been around for years. If you do happen upon any of the artists in Artist Alley, please follow them on social media, give them a like, and buy something, even if it is just a sticker or artwork; it is the best way to support independent artists.
