On July 13, 2013 entertainment history was made when a\u00a0 movie named Sharknado<\/a> broadcast on SYFY<\/a>. This event set up five years of fun with a total of six movies that completed a successful movie of the week run on August 19, 2018 with The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time<\/a>. The incredible series of films became a phenomenon that began with the original followed by Sharknado 2: The Second One<\/a> in 2014, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!<\/a> in 2015, Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens<\/a> in 2016, and Sharknado 5: Global Swarming<\/a> in 2017!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This incredible five year run spawned a social media frenzy that was embraced by science fiction fans around the world with Twitter live tweet parties and general hysteria as people enjoyed a series of movies that were originally rejected by network studios. One publicist, Gary Morgenstein<\/a>, then with the SYFY<\/a> Channel (originally known as the SciFi Channel), knew better, convincing executives to broadcast the original film in the series. Gary recalls a warning that if it failed to draw sufficient audiences, he could look forward to seeking a new employer!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Over the five year hit run by Anthony C. Ferrante<\/a> who directed, and written by Thunder Levin<\/a>, the films stars Ian Ziering<\/a>, Tara Reid<\/a> and Cassandra Scerbo<\/a> became household favorites. The series became famous for cameo roles by famous television celebrities including Nichelle Nichols, Olivia Newton-John, Kathie Lee Gifford, Dolph Lundgren, Marina Sirtis, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Al Roker and dozens of well known individuals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On June 21, 2023 we had the honor of interviewing Gary about his role in the Sharknado series \u00a0for SYFY and at entertainment conventions including the fabled San Diego Comic-Con where we interviewed the celebrities and creators in 2015 as well as attending the Sharknado panels<\/a>. We also discussed Gary\u2019s transition to becoming an award winning author that began when we reviewed his play \u201cMad Mel and the Marradians<\/a>\u201d in 2011 followed by the musical \u201cMad Mel Saves the World<\/a>\u201d and many others<\/a>! <\/span><\/span>With this in mind, we know you will enjoy our interview about the tenth anniversary of the Sharknado series with Gary Morgenstein<\/a> that we have included below for your enjoyment.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
