\"The<\/a>The Saturn Awards<\/a> were held June 24, 2010 and were amazing. I wish that I could have been there to see Avatar<\/strong><\/a> sweep the film awards and the sheer look of glee of Anna Torv<\/a> on her face for her wonderful win as best actress in the television series Fringe<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

WHR was also quite pleased to see the legendary Leonard Nimoy<\/a> receive acclaim for his guest starring role in Fringe<\/a> as William Bell. Lance Reddick<\/a>, Leonard Nimoy, and the gorgeous and supremely talented Anna Torv<\/a> are featured below on the Red Carpet and receiving her well deserved award. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I can only share with you that Anna is one of my most favorite actresses and I have nothing but respect for her dual role as “our” Olivia and the red haired “Alt_Livia” portrayal in the Fringe season two 2 part finale ‘Over There”! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Leonard Nimoy had a brilliant and somewhat comedic moment when he discussed his role in the 1952 movie\u00a0 “Zombies of the Stratosphere<\/a>” the first science fiction motion picture for which he is most remembered for. Leonard’s portrayal of William Bell may be his last since Leonard announced his retirement to pursue other interests. While all hope it is not true and he may yet return, it was most fitting that J.J. Abrams allowed William Bell to sacrifice him self to return our Fringe Team to the “Other Side”!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

There were many other fantastic stars and celebrities whom were honored including the talented Sam Raimi <\/a>for his “The World of Warcraft<\/strong>” movie now in development. As well as Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman receiving the prestigious George Pal Award! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What amazed WHR about the Saturn Awards<\/a> was not the fact that Avatar swept the film awards or that Anna Torv<\/a> was named best actress or that Leonard Nimoy<\/a> was named best guest starring actor, I expected these bec<\/span><\/span>\"WormholeRiders<\/a><\/span><\/span>ause of their superb performances in Fringe<\/strong>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What amazed me was there was no live television coverage to honor and respect so many talented creators, actress and actors. Even more amazing is the low number of views these videos have received which is why WHR has included them for your pleasure and hope you enjoy them as much as we have.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As mentioned we should all be thankful to Roddenberry Productions<\/a> for their extensive coverage of The Saturn Awards. To that point, and of great interest to many were the appearances of Gene Roddenberry’s son, Rod Roddenberry<\/a> working on a remake of the 1974 television classic science fiction movie<\/a> “The Questor Tapes<\/a>” and Shaun Toub<\/a> now appearing in “The Last Airbender<\/a>“.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Naturally James Cameron<\/a> and Avatar <\/strong>deserves the lions share of the credit for film excellence as we reported earlier this year when WHR was honored to participate in a Red Carpet ceremony at the California Institute of Technology<\/a> with a 90 minute panel about the science behind the science fiction. (Los Angeles, Ca.)\u00a0 The Saturn Awards<\/strong> were dominated by James Cameron\u2019s<\/strong> 3D masterpiece \u201cAvatar<\/strong>,<\/em>\u201d which garnered ten Saturn Awards.\u00a0 The film not only was named Best Science Fiction Film<\/strong>, but Best Actor and Actress: Sam Worthington<\/strong> and Zoe Saldana<\/strong>; Best Supporting Actor and Actress:\u00a0 Stephen Lang<\/strong> and Sigourney Weaver<\/strong>, Best Special Effects, Best Music, Best Production Design and Best Writer and Director for James Cameron<\/a> — who holds the record for most Saturn Awards wins of all time.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Other Best Film winners included:\u00a0 \u201cWatchmen<\/strong>\u201d <\/em>(Best Fantasy Film), \u201cDrag Me To Hell<\/strong>\u201d <\/em>(Best Horror Film), \u201cMonsters Vs. Aliens<\/strong>\u201d <\/em>(Best Animation), \u201cDistrict 9<\/strong>\u201d <\/em>(Best International Film) <\/em>and \u201cInglourious Basterds<\/strong>\u201d <\/em>(Best Action\/Adventure\/Thriller).<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Abrams<\/a>\u2019 Bad Robot Productions<\/a> was well-represented with honors in television programming.\u00a0 \u201cLost\u201d <\/em>received Best Network TV Series and Best TV Actor:\u00a0 Josh Holloway; while \u201cFringe<\/a>\u201d <\/em>also scared up two awards for Best TV Actress: Anna Torv<\/strong> and Best Actor in a Guest-Starring Role:\u00a0 Leonard Nimoy<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Not to be outdone, AMC\u2019s groundbreaking series \u201cBreaking Bad\u201d <\/em>took home 2 Saturns itself:\u00a0 Best Syndicated\/Cable TV Series and Best Supporting TV Actor: Aaron Paul.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The highlights of the awards ceremony were the special awards presented throughout
\nthe evening.\u00a0 On the thirtieth Anniversary of his film \u201cStar Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,\u201d<\/em> director Irvin Kershner<\/strong> was honored with the Life Career Award<\/strong>.\u00a0 Harrison Ford<\/strong> congratulated \u201cKersh\u201d from location in New Mexico.\u00a0 Lando Calrissian himself Billy Dee Williams<\/strong> read a letter from George Lucas, then presented the award to Kershner\u2019s son, who accepted on his father\u2019s behalf.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The writing\/producing team of Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman<\/strong> (\u201cStar Trek,\u201d \u201cFringe\u201d \u201cTransformers\u201d) <\/em>received the prestigious George Pal Memorial Award<\/strong> in honor of their unending imagination and dedication to creating amazing genre-bending blockbusters at the movies and on television.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lauren Shuler Donner <\/strong>received the Producers Showcase<\/strong> Award<\/strong> for her strong body of work in genre films, including the \u201cX-Men<\/strong>\u201d<\/em> franchise.\u00a0 COO of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns presented the award, Hugh Jackman<\/strong> congratulated her from the set of his new movie.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many genre leaders were in attendance including: Guillermo Del Toro, Sam Raimi, Quentin Tarantino, Zack Snyder, Malcolm McDowell, David Hedison, Jon Landau (\u201cAvatar\u201d), Rod Lurie, Deborah Snyder, Neil Marshal, Lloyd Levin,\u00a0 legendary Disney composer Richard Sherman, Billy Dee Williams, Michelle Monaghan,\u00a0 Carlton Cuse and Adam Horowitz (\u201cLost\u201d), Bryan Burk (\u201cStar Trek\u201d, \u201cFringe\u201d), Lisa Stewart (\u201cMonsters Vs. Aliens\u201d), Vince Gilligan (\u201cBreaking Bad\u201d), Stephen Lang, Geoff Johns, James Remar, Lukas Haas, Catherine Hicks, Kelly Hu, Aaron Paul, Mark Sheppard, William Katt, James Kyson Lee, Jon Seda (\u201cThe Pacific\u201d), Lance Reddick (\u201cFringe\u201d), Mark Pellegrino (\u201cLost\u201d), Michelle Trachtenberg, Zachary Levi & Josh Gomez, John De Lancie, Rod Roddenberry, Shaun Taub (\u201cThe Last Airbender\u201d), Brando Eaton, plus newcomers Kiernan Shipka (\u201cMad Men\u201d) and Haily & Tatum McCann.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 36th<\/sup> Annual Saturn Awards were presented by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films, a non-profit organization created in 1972 to honor, recognize and promote genre entertainment.\u00a0 The Academy was founded by noted film historian, Dr. Donald A. Reed, who passed away in 2001.\u00a0 Robert Holguin currently serves as President of the Academy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
